Discover the life of a little-known lay saint: Saint Germaine cousin, humble shepherdess of the village of Pibrac in Southern France.
During her brief life of 21 years, she encountered only suffering and hardship. Yet, being always united to God, she was radiant with supernatural joy. She performed miracles during her lifetime, but especially after her death.
Pope Pius IX described her as “a humble and simple girl, born in an obscure hamlet, true and sincere in the practice of piety, aided from above by the spirit of wisdom and intelligence, surpassed all that could be expected of her age and state in life in the exercise of the most sublime virtues, and, like a new star, she shed a marvelous light, not only upon the Church of France, which had seen her birth, but also upon the universal Church” (Brief of Beatification of Germaine Cousin, 1854).
This is an original translation from a 19th century French book.
